Diet !

31 Mar

Lately I’ve seen a lot of girls who are trying to go on a diet so they can look “better”. Some are not eating at all, and not getting the nutrients their body needs. This may affect the health of growing teenagers. This has been an issue throughout society because teenagers hasn’t been eating to lose weight. Some are becoming anorexic. I think the reason teenage girls are trying to lose weight is because of the point of view teenagers have these days. Some have the point of view that if your fat, your weird, or different. Because of this “fat” girls have been getting bullied or teased by other girls in school, and have gotten a lot of stress from it. Not only is it girls that tease them, but boys tease “fat” students in their grade. I think this is a very horrible point of view of teenage students. They’re determining a person’s personality based on their appearance. Although they might not call themselves bullies, this is a type of harassment, and this might have a great effect on the actual person getting bullied. Because of this some students worldwide have gone through a lot of hardships, or even worse, committed suicide because they were just sick of being bullied.

Well, that’s the bad side of having a diet. I don’t really think teenagers need to have a diet, unless it’s affecting their health. I do get that they want to look better, because I’ve tried getting on a diet, and it is very painful to try and eat healthy. So I think teenagers shouldn’t try to diet because they should respect their appearances, and not just look at the bad point of it.

First Game !

6 Mar

I thought our first game would be against OSAN, but that game got canceled, so we had our first game against TCIS. I didn’t think I would play because I had hurt my knee, and I barely participated in some practices before the game. I knew I wasn’t going to be put in for my knee, and for the next game on Wednesday against GSIS.

The boys went first, and in the first half of the game, they scored a goal, but so did the other team. We cheered for them, but we had to go in, so we did. Maybe was is because we weren’t there, or because they had just given up, we do not know, but the other team had scored a few goals on our team. When we went out, I saw one of my friends, who was on the team, crying. I guess they’d given up, and in that short amount of time, the other team had scored on them.

Our coach told us to never give up, and play till the end of the game. Of course since it was our first game, the freshmen and the people new to the team were pretty nervous. Our captain, Elaine, had said that the TCIS team was a very aggressive team, even though they’re very friendly and nice. I got really scared because of the boy’s result and how the girls looked in that team.

However, coach just told us to play till the end, and to not give up. She said that she didn’t care about the result, because in soccer goals are there to be made, and if we put our heads down during the game and give up, then it would be worse. We should just try our best, and enjoy!

So the game started, and we did pretty well. Both teams had their chances to score, but missed. I noticed that Coach didn’t want to put me in. Before my knee was injured, I was selected as starter, but because of my knee, I couldn’t play at all in my first home game. I was pretty depressed by that fact, but I had to get over it for my team’s good and for my own good. I actually think that Coach’s choice was a good one, because my knee had to have time to rest, and my knee would’ve gotten worse by any chance.

The game ended, and we tied 0:0. Coach told us that this was the first time we tied to the team, and that she was very proud of how we played. I think we earned the result because starting from tryouts, we tried really hard to build our fitness, and skills. And our team was made up of a group of girls who really loved and enjoyed playing soccer.

Varsity Soccer

22 Feb

Last week were the tryouts for both girls and boys soccer.

The girls had a very hard time during the tryout because the coaches went very hard on us, focusing on our fitness. From the first day of tryouts we ran more than 5 km, and for most of us, it was the first time running that much in their lives. And I was included in those group of people too. We just had to concentrate on our breathing and push ourselves. As days passed, tryouts got harder and harder. We ran a little more every time we ran, and the tryouts got harder.

Not really anyone got cutoff, and everybody got to be on the team. We played a scrimmage, a whole game for 80 minutes. I think the running did really help because everybody wasn’t as tired as they were before.

Yesterday was our first official practice as a team, and we ran about 6 km, maybe more. I wasn’t panting like I was the first day, even though that was the first time we ran as far. We had ran about 3 subway stations! That was a great feeling for us because we didn’t give up, and ran as a team till the end. Our soccer skills improved, and even though it was our first practice, our teamwork improved too. Every time, our teammates encourage each other, and compliment others for the good things they did. This really did build up our teamwork, and got to know each other really quickly and easily.

Next week is our first game at Osan, a military base. I’m really worried because there aren’t much Asians on the team, and they’re much taller and more fit than we are. However, soccer games aren’t about winning or losing. It’s about how hard we try, and how much fun we have during the game. I just want to enjoy and have fun at Osan, and get good memories at my first game! ๐Ÿ™‚

Valentines Day

13 Feb

What exactly is it? It’s a day for celebrating love and affection between intimate companions. Today people give chocolate to their loved ones, and usually it’s the time for women to give chocolate to men.
While I was shopping with my friend, I saw a group of people doing something together. They were holding red, heart-shaped balloons, and they were saying stuff about valentines day. I don’t remember what the people exactly said, but they were talking about donations on valentines day, instead of only celebrating and giving chocolate to your loved ones.
I thought about it, and thought that this would be a great idea to be put into action. Instead of giving chocolate, only to your beloved ones, you might get to share more happiness if you give chocolate to the ones who don’t have anyone to receive chocolate from, to the ones who don’t have anyone to revive love from. Or maybe you can save the money for chocolate and donate it to people who urgently need some help from people like you.

Too much of a Good Thing

29 Jan

In people’s lives, there are many good things that can please him or her, like money, friends, or anything that makes people happy. However, not only are those the things that make people happy, but there are many important things in people lives, where it will be hard for he/she to live, like electricity, water, air, or etc. However, a little too much of something good, is not a good thing. I’ve thought about this while reading the book Sold, that I’m reading at the moment for my independent reading project.

In this book, the main character lives in Nepal, under great poverty. They get their money by farming crops, and water is the most important thing they need to grow the crops. However, they face a great drought, and almost all their crops die. About 60 days later the great drought, rain finally comes! They find happiness, however, more and more rain comes. Because of the great amount of water, all their crops gets washed away.

This may be one of the examples why a little too much of the good things may do harm. Also, a little to much of money may do harm, although it can be very beneficial to people’s lives. I’ve met a lot of people through out my life, and I’ve also met very rich friends. I’ve noticed something different about them: they were very spoiled. Although a lot of money can help people, for example, like donating money to people who need help. With money, you can to anything you want or buy anything. Rich parents, who want to do everything for thier children, can spoil the kid.

I think this applies to all aspect of life. Too much of a good thing can do great harm to people.

Facebook

26 Jan

Facebook. Does this site have a benefit or does it do harm to a student. There may be many different answers to this, but most people would say, that it may be beneficial, but too much of it may do harm to the student. And I agree with this. Facebook might be helpful for students to interact with other students, and it may help them with their social life at school. However, these days students get on facebook, or other chatting services, for a very long time. This may affect students’ time management of doing his or her school work.

Facebook is very important in a students’ life in school. People ask what their homework is, how friends from far away are doing, and lots more stuff through facebook. It has taken a small part of their lives to go and check facebook, and see what’s going on with others. I bet everyone in your school has facebook, except for the ones that actually try to concentrate with their school work, and worry about their future lives. It is basically counted as, “if you don’t have facebook, then you’re a loser”, kind of thing. I guess that’s why everybody makes facebook, so they can keep track with their friends, and be “cool”.

Since everybody’s going on facebook andย  chatting with their friends, this can go on forever and ever. It eventually leads them to midnight for them to realize, “Oh! I forgot to finish my homework .. I’ve got to start now.. “, and they go back to chatting and facebook. Their time management skill decreases, which is not beneficial for their school life.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

9 Jan

This break, I watched a lot of movies, but one of the good movies was The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. This was one part of the Chronicles of Narnia, which is a book series, which I really enjoyed reading. The first movie series that came out was The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, which I thought was the best movie at that time. After watching that movie, I was really waiting for another movie to come out, and it finally came out!

It was the first 3D movie for me, so I was even more excited. There was a 4D version of the movie, but it only worked in certain movie theaters. When the movie started, I thought the 3D figures will feel like it came right in front of me, for me to feel like I can grab it. However, I didn’t feel anything close to that. The screen only seemed 3D, and it wasn’t that of a big deal. I would’ve felt the same if I watched it 2D. After some time, my nose started to hurt because the 3D glasses resting on my nose had pressed down a little too hardly, and I wasn’t used to that feeling. I got a bit distracted by the pain the glasses were giving me.

The movie itself was actually very interesting. Like the other movies, I really enjoyed watching it. It was was intense, and I couldn’t take my eye off the screen for a second. Everything was very unpredictable, and I never knew what was going to pop out. The music made the overall feeling of the movie very interesting. Other people said that the movie seemed really bad, and most people didn’t like the movie at all. When I told my friend that I watched Narnia, some asked me how I watch a movie like that. Even though this may sound very funny, I thought the movie was a big moving, and I really enjoyed it. Out of 10 stars, I would give it 9.5 stars. ๐Ÿ™‚
